In April 2005, we (Coe and Jean Sherrard) moved to Woodstock from Knoxville, Tennessee and opened the Woodstock Cafe & Shoppes. We discovered this area during our early careers based in Norfolk/Virginia Beach and dreamed of the day that we would actually be able to come live here. Through over thirty years and several moves, Jean kept the old-marked up maps, until our careers and family lives gave us the freedom to finally be able to get here. Coe convinced Jean that running a little Cafe together in a quaint mountain town would be relaxing and a fun way to drift into retirement. Jean admits that Coe was right about the fun part; she questions whether the words relaxing or retirement belong in the last sentence. Coes okay with one out of three and the reason our pace hasnt been relaxing and our hours do not sync with a retirement lifestyle is that the business has been successful! While we are proud of the products we provide, our success derives largely from an enthusiastic and supporting community and wonderful employees! We also have an outstanding partner, Carolyn Garman (10,000 Villages) whose products contribute significantly to the fabric of our business model. We havent done everything we set out to do with this business yet, so stay tuned. In the meantime, thank you for your support!
